St Tola’s efforts to promote Irish celebrated
A total of 154 students from 18 primary schools, including St Tola’s NS, Delvin, were celebrated at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Tuesday June 13 at the Gaelbhratach presentation ceremony.
The students worked throughout the year to promote the Irish language, and each school received a Gaelbhratach flag as recognition for their efforts at a fun day of bouncy castles, céilí dancing, and of course, the Irish language.
Niamh Ní Chróinín, TG4 and Cúla4 presenter, said: “I think this is a brilliant scheme, and these schools’ passion for Irish couldn’t be clearer. These young people should be proud of themselves.”
Gaelbhratach manager, Mairéad Ní Thiománaigh, said: “These young people continue to inspire us every year, and although each school is different, we have a common aim of promoting Irish.
"This is the 10th year of the scheme and we couldn’t be prouder of this, and of the school committees and all they achieved this year.
“Our goal has always been to normalise speaking Irish in schools. We would like to thank our funders, Foras na Gaeilge and the Dept of Education, and of course with the schools who take part. And thanks also to the Tullamore Court Hotel as host of this event.”
