Council confirm town centre road closures for fleadh

The following roads and streets will be closed to traffic from 10am on Sunday August 6 until 4am on Tuesday August 15 to facilitate Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2023 in Mullingar.

• Mount Street Gardens

• Gaol Hill

• Auburn Road

• Mary Street

• The Green Bridge to Railway Station

• The Green Bridge

• Railway Row

• Grove Street

• Dominick Place

• Martins Lane

• Bishopsgate Street

• College Street

• Eastern end of Patrick Street

• Southern end of Green Road

• Western end of Friars Mill Road

As was the case during the 2022 fleadh, barriers will preventing vehicles from entering the streets, supervised as required.

Deliveries, maintenance and other servicing will be permitted each days between 4am and 10am.

Vehicles remaining in the above zones after 10am will be towed away by a nominated tow-truck operator, the council have warned.

Streets and roads marked red will be closed during the fleadh.

Campsite at Rathcolman

A one-way system will be in operation along the L1137 at Rathcolman and no turning will be permitted from the R392 to the L1137 – access will be from R390 only.

A special speed limit of 50kmh will apply during the above period.

Alternative Routes

During the fleadh, motorists will be required to traverse the outer orbital route (N52 bypass, Joe Dolan Bridge, western bypass and N4) or via the Robinstown Link Road.

Signs will be placed at the major junctions around the town informing motorists of the above closures.

Restrictions to car parks

Access to a number of car parks will be restricted as follows in advance of the fleadh:

Blackhall – partially closed to vehicles from 5pm on Tuesday August 1, and full closure to vehicles from 5pm on Friday August 4.

Fair Green – closed to vehicles from 5pm on Thursday August 3.

Friars Mill Road – designated for disabled parking only from 10am on Sunday August 6 until 4am on Tuesday August 15.

Austin Friars car park – partially allocated for disabled parking from 10am on Sunday August 6 until 4am on Tuesday August 15.

Signs will be erected to alert motorists in advance.
