Muiríosa Foundation coffee morning for Focus Ireland
A coffee morning last Thursday week at the Muiríosa Foundation hub in Millennium House, Mullingar, raised more than €800 for Focus Ireland, and helped further the aim of the hub: “community engagement and integration”.
The individuals attending the centre were fully involved in organising the event and went out to contact businesses around the town to invite them to attend and to make donations for the cause, for which they received great support.
On the day of the coffee morning, the staff and individuals at the centre made sure balloons were put up, the tables were decorated and all the goodies laid out for guests.
There was strong support from the community and the organisers were delighted with the turnout. The individuals and staff mixed with guests and took turns serving the tea, coffee and treats.
Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Shannon Curran, social care worker at the centre, said that the individuals love to get involved with the fundraisers and they are great social networking platforms for them.
“The idea came about from a group meeting, where they discuss ideas regularly, and everyone said they’d like to do a coffee morning,” said Shannon.
“Coffee mornings are something we like to do, and get the guys involved with the planning and organising of them. We always choose a charitable cause to raise money for and it’s also a good way to integrate with the community, so that’s our main focus in the hub – to integrate with the community.” Tina Kane, one of the individuals who attend the centre, and who also works at Mullingar Arts Centre and Classic Cuts, said she really enjoyed the coffee morning and was delighted with the turnout on the day. “We went around the shops to ask for donations,” she said, “and we got a lot of stuff from different shops, it went well.”
Tina said she wasn’t surprised to see so many people at the coffee morning. The hub wished to thank all that sponsored vouchers, hampers, cakes and treats.
Danielle Swan, Millennium House, who led the organising of the event, said: “We were absolutely delighted with the turnout for the coffee morning. It was a great success. I would like to thank the Greville, Danny Byrnes, Gillerans, Juice Zone, Classic Cuts, Lulu’s Bakes, Besties Barbers, Gloss, the Annebrook, Tormeys butchers and Looking Good Beauty for all the vouchers; Walkers chemist and Whelehans Pharmacy for hampers and Insomnia and EuroGiant for cups. SuperValu, O’Brien’s, Dunnes Stores and O’Hehirs Bakery for buns and cakes; and all the families that brought in and baked goodies.”
