Anne Prendergast, accommodation chairperson on the Fleadh executive committee.

Fleadh Committee Profile: Anne Prendergast

As part of our on-going coverage in the lead- up to this year's Fleadh, we are profiling members of the Fleadh executive committee who have dedicated a lot of their time over the past few years to the event.

What is your role on the executive committee?

Accommodation chairperson.

Why did you sign up for the committee?

I thought that it was such a huge opportunity for the town, that I had to get involved. I don’t have a traditional music background, but have been to a few fleadhanna before, so helping bring the Fleadh to my home town just made sense.

Can people still register accommodation?

Yes, go to fleadhcheoil.ie, click on Accommodation in the drop down menu, click on register accommodation then fill out the accommodation form and we’ll post your listing .

What was your stand out moment of the 2022 Fleadh?

The excitement and astonishment of us all on the FEC in Blackhall at the opening ceremony was a stand out moment for me. The Fleadh had finally come home. The senior céilí band competition in the cathedral was electric. Being on the stage for the closing ceremony and seeing all the mobile phone lighting up in the crowd was great. Seeing the town so vibrant, welcoming and well able to host a major event. There were too many amazing memories to mention them all.

What are you most looking forward to for Fleadh 2023?

Everything. The amazing events and concerts. Meeting friends and family. A bit of craic and showing off Mullingar.

What Legacy would you like to see Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Mullingar 2022/23 leave on the town?

Confidence, pride, can-do attitude and a belief in future events.
