Order of Malta prepare for the Fleadh Cheoil

The Mullingar unit of the Order of Malta met recently to finalise plans for the Fleadh Cheoil in August. With just three weeks to go until over 500,000 people flock to the town, preparations are in full swing for this huge undertaking.

The National Ambulance service were in attendance on the night to talk through how the Order of Malta can assist them effectively. The Gardaí also gave a presentation on crowd control and what the first aid volunteers can expect during the week. There will be in the region of 100 members on duty over the week of the fleadh.

Julia Dalton, the officer in charge of the Mullingar unit, and volunteer coordinator of the fleadh executive committee, said that the training evening was a great success.

“We’re here today for our training session. We have members from An Garda Síochána and the national ambulance service. They have come down this evening to help us prepare for the fleadh.

“It is one of the biggest events that the Order of Malta covers in the country,” said Julia.

The countdown is now well and truly on to the return of the Fleadh Cheoil to Mullingar for the second consecutive year, with only a matter of weeks to go.
