Mullingar Camera club to display work at Fleadh '23

During the 2022 Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar, members of Mullingar Camera Club recorded the event day by day, photographing musicians on the street and in pubs and shops.

The resultant photos captured the wonderful relaxed and friendly atmosphere in which huge numbers of visitors took in the music, often played every few yards and street by street. The Fleadh volunteers rendered assistance to the visitors as they mingled with the musicians, while Gardai almost unobtrusively ensured that all enjoyed the event in safety.

The Exhibition will honour the 2022 Fleadh in an exhibition that will be on show in the Atrium, County Buildings during this year's event.

The Fleadh also featured a series of wonderful concerts in the Cathedral of Christ the King. Martin Hayes, with the Common Ground Ensemble, Sharon Shannon, Frankie Gavin, Anúna, Seán Keane and Mullingar’s own Emmet Cahill were some of the top-flight musicians to take part, with a special appearance by Seamus Begley, who sadly passed away not long after.

These concerts will also feature in the exhibition, along with photos from Fleadh TV, including Bressie, Cathy Davy, and a poignant tribute to the late Aisling Murphy, presented by Dáithi Ó Sé.

The free exhibition will continue for a week following the week-long festival.

The 2023 Fleadh will, again, be a special subject of the camera club, which will resume meetings in Mullingar Arts Centre in September.
