Young Rochfortbridge girl's work benefits Children’s Hospital

A young Rochfortbridge girl has raised €200 for the Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, with the help of her two friends.

Kate Moran organised an event at home, called Imagine That, in which different items, sourced by herself, were sold to her many friends. The sale of sweets, treats and fidget toys brought in a tidy total for a very worthy cause as Kate and her friends took time out from school holidays to do important work for those less fortunate in life. Through their initiative, a nice total was realised.

Kate’s little cousin is currently sick in CHI at Crumlin (formerly Our Lady's Hospital for sick children) and she wanted to do something to raise money for what she considered a very worthy cause. Together with her friends Vanessa Wright and Ella Sharry, Kate began making fidgets and sensory bottles for her fundraiser on July 17, with sweets, treats and home made popcorn also available to purchase.

Fidget toys are handheld tools made to help users focus and decrease stress. The toys are also believed to improve learning ability. While there isn’t enough scientific research to support their benefits, they are commonly utilised and recommended by researchers. Fidget toys come in many different forms, such as fidget spinners, fidget cubes and rubber band balls.

Kate set up outside her home in Rochfortbridge and was delighted with the response the fundraiser received. She is extremely grateful to all the locals who donated and supported them raise money that will benefit Ireland's largest acute paediatric hospital.

Kate’s aunt will present the cheque to the Children's Hospital, Crumlin.
