IKA will be the only charity at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil

The Irish Kidney Association (IKA) will be the only charity with a stall at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Mullingar and leading the line will be Killucan man, Eddie Flood, who is the IKA national chairman.

The charity is appealing for all the support it can get as demands continue to surge owing to the energy crisis. Patients on home dialysis are finding their energy bills have soared and need as much support as they can get in the present climate. Members of the public attending the Fleadh Cheoil will be able to donate to the charity.

“It’s a really difficult time for dialysis patients and we’re hoping we get a lot of support with our fundraising effort at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil. We really appreciate the opportunity to have a stall at the event and considering the huge crowd that attended last year, we hope it will be a good week,” said Mr Flood.

The chairman is grateful to Joe Connaire for facilitating the charity and he is calling on members to come out during the week and assist in whatever way they can.

“We will be promoting the work of the IKA, the importance of organ donation and of having an organ donor card. We are hoping it proves successful as a fundraiser for us, too, as our fundraising efforts have been severely curtailed in recent years,” he said.

The chairty relies on fundraising for its important work in supporting those on dialysis and indeed transplant patients. The IKA stall will be open from Sunday, August 6 to Sunday August 13.

Those who are able to volunteer their support at any time over the week are asked to contact Eddie Flood on 087 9665750.
