Well done Amy
Members of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, at their July meeting, extended congratulations to local athlete Amy Wallace, who made her international debut in the 1500 metres U20 at a juvenile gala in Germany in July. At the proposal of Cllr Ken Glynn, the district also agreed to a civic reception to honour Special Olympics gold medal winner, Daryl Gahan.
Cllr Emily Wallace said she wanted recognition of the success of Mullingar Harriers, which has had more than 15 athletes represent Ireland internationally in the last three years.
“These are juveniles that are training six days a week,” she stated, adding that while she has requested a civic reception for them in the past, it has never come through.
Support for that suggestion came from the mayor, Cllr John Shaw, and Cllr Ken Glynn, both members of the council’s Corporate Policy Group, which decides on receptions, and Cllr Denis Leonard.
At the same meeting, Cllr Aoife Davitt proposed a vote of congratulations to the team of girls from St Loman’s who won the All-Ireland Féile competition.
