Community plunged into sadness following death of 'incredible' young man
Tributes have poured in following the untimely death of a young man in north Westmeath.
Ballycomoyle GAA Club have led the tributes to their “incredible” clubman Robert Cooney. In a post on their Facebook page yesterday, the club said:
“Our club and community have been plunged into deep sadness today at the untimely death of our player, incredible clubman and dear friend Robert Cooney.
“Our deepest condolences to the Cooney family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time. Rest In Peace Robbie.
“All club activities have been postponed until further notice.”
Scores of Robbie's friends and club colleagues have posted tributes to him on Ballycomoyle GAA's Facebook page.
Numerous people described Robbie as an “absolute gentleman” and someone who will be greatly missed in the club and the wider community.
One person posted: “Rest well Robbie. You made such a positive impact coaching our young under 15 footballers this year. I don’t think you realised how much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this very sad time.”
