Mullingar Pride chairman nominated for volunteer of year
The founder and chairman of Mullingar Pride, Daniel Boyne, has been nominated for volunteer of the year at the GALAS awards (Gay and Lesbian Awards).
The GALAS were set up by the National Lesbian and Gay Federation to honour LGBTQIA+ people and organisations for their contributions to Irish society, north and south of the border.
It was announced on Friday, September 1, that Daniel Boyne had made the shortlist for one of four nominations for volunteer of the year, out of more than 3,500 people.
The GALAS night is at the Mansion House in Dublin on Saturday October 8, hosted by Panti Bliss and former GCN managing editor Lisa Connell.
Daniel said: “I was delighted with the nomination and completely shocked when I received the news – to be recognised by such an established organisation so early on in our journey is a real testament to the work we are doing with Mullingar Pride.
“It shows we are making a great impact, locally and nationwide as well, which is amazing.
“A ton of hard work goes into what we do and it really is a team effort. This award is as much the committee’s achievement as it is mine.
“We are all going up together for the awards and going to make a real night of it. I know our outfit choices are going to be glam, glam, glam! We can’t wait. We are representing the town so we have to turn it out."
Daniel also thanked everyone who took the time and voted for him.
Mullingar Pride are already planning their 2024 events, which include the return of their drag brunches and table quizzes and new events to raise money for the main event.
Mullingar Pride is on Saturday July 13, 2024, along with the Parade and celebration concert Werk! Fest.
