Reidy wins Order of Merit Summer Series
Mullingar Golf Club notes
The final round of the Egan Auctioneers sponsored Order of Merit Summer Series was cancelled due to the adverse weather forecast. The rainfall never let up despite some earlier reports that the afternoon would see a clearance.
The final Order of Merit table is now confirmed. The overall winner is Brian Reidy; leading lady is Ann Fagan; leading gent is Joe Kelly. Best gross is Adam Smith; best junior is Dylan Lambden Hayes.
The presentation night will be confirmed in the coming days. Many thanks to all the members, their guests and the many visitors who played their part in making this a very successful event for the club.
9 & Dine
The final round of the Keenan Bauer sponsored 9 & Dine was also due to take place on Friday September 15, but fell foul of the weather. It will now be held on Friday September 29 beginning at 3.30pm. Timesheet now open.
Clubhouse Opening hours: open 7 days 10am to 10pm. Last orders for food is 9pm each day.

Mullingar Golf Club Men’s Branch Notes: Senior men’s
A total of 73 senior members participated in last week’s Senior Men’s competition on Tuesday. Conditions were good as were the scores from the winners. Marius Gavin (10) with 23 points and 17 bonus points for a total of 40 points was a worthy winner.
The runner up was Joe Kelly (5) with 23 points and 17 bonus points also for 40 points. In third place was Tom Mulvee (11) with 21 points and 17 bonus points for a score of 38 points.
Super Senior winner was Mick Duffy (9) with 20 and 18 bonus points for a total of 38 points. Super Super Senior winner was Cyril Collier (10) with 15 and 18 bonus points for a total of 33 points and best of the day was Vincent Dolan (8) with 22 points.
Long handicap Competition
Last week we had a Sweepstake over 9 holes sponsored by the men’s branch. The winners for that week were: Category 1, John Regan (10) with 21 points; Category 2, Stephen Noonan (9) also with 20 points, and Category 3 Aidan Isdell (11) with 20 points. Next week’s competition is sponsored by Mr Captain Steven O’Hara.
Sunday Competition
Weather conditions for last Sunday’s competition, which was sponsored by Genesis Fine Arts/Mindy Brownes, were to say the least challenging with persistent misty rain for most of the afternoon. Despite this 89 members participated in the competition. The winners were Paddy Dunne (6) with a score of 39 points. The Gross winner was David Keenaghan (+2) with a score of 36 points.
Category 1 winner was Stephen O’Brien (6) with 37 points; Category 2 winner was Billy Moore (10) with 36 points, and Category 3 winner was Paul Carroll (22) on 38 points. The Senior winner was Sean Casey (18) with 36 points and the Junior winner was Cillian Breslin (22) on 36 points. The Fashion Shop Mullingar were the generous sponsors of the Ladies 18 Hole Open Singles Stableford on Wednesday September 13 last.
Despite a mixed weather forecast the ladies turned out in big numbers for this open competition and some great scores were returned.
The winner on the day playing great golf was Elizabeth Mahon (34) with a superb 41pts.
In second place Nancy Cooney (22) with an excellent 40 pts. In third place playing great golf was Josephine Purcell (33) with 39 pts and the Gross Prize winner was Mary Taaffe (14) with 24 pts.
Congratulations and well done ladies on such great scores.
Cat 1 winner was Mary McCauley (16) with 35 pts; Cat 2 winner was Clare Talbot (21) with 38 pts; Cat 3 winner was Ita Murtagh (28) with 37 pts,;and Cat 4 winner was Louise Jones (40) with 35 pts.
Back 9 winner was Nula Lynam(22) with 22 pts; Senior winner was Bernie Kelly (25) with 36 pts, and Super Senior winner was Lady President Patience Collier (23) with 30 pts.
There were 63 Entries for the 18 hole open.
9 hole competition
Winner Sylvia Tormey (15) with 19 pts. In 2nd place, Zita Graham (22) with 19 pts. The Senior prize went to Liz Quinlan (20) with 16 pts and Super Senior went to Ber Chambers (18) with 15 pts.
There were 23 Entries for the 9 Hole Competition.

Ladies Competition Fixtures
On Wednesday September 20, our Lady Captain Rosemary Whelehan’s Away Day will be held in Millicent Golf Club in Clane. This will be an 18 hole team event and the time sheet is full with a reserve list posted in the locker room. There will be casual golf in Mullingar due to sand on the course following hollow tining on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19.
On Wednesday September 27 our 18 hole singles Stableford is very kindly sponsored by James Maguire & Sons. Alternate days Saturday 23 and Sunday 24.
Get your diary out and mark in the final Major Competition for 2023: for the Ladies Branch, the Lighting Showrooms Ladies Hamper, kindly sponsored by Ann Marie and Peader Conlon, on Sunday October 1.
This will be an 18 Holes singles Stableford and the time sheet will fill up very quickly ,and there will also be men’s 9 hole singles competition.

Our Club Foursomes sponsored by Cathy Smith /Una Stephens is ready for finals after September 24 and our Joli Club Fourball is ready for final match to be played. Siobhan O’Donnell Murphy & Maeve Donnelly will take on Ann Marie Fagan and Paula Dunne. Best of luck to both teams.
Lady Captain Rosemary Whelehan’s 18 hole Matchplay is at quarter-final stage and Lady President Patience Collier’s 9-hole Matchplay is progressing with great golf being played in all the matches.

Presentation night
A packed Clubhouse for our Presentation night took place on Wednesday last September 13 with prizes for the James Quinlivan Club Professional, Specsavers Hearing, Keane’s HealthPoint Pharmacies and The Fashion Shop-sponsored competitions being presented.
Our sincere thanks to all our very generous sponsors who support the Ladies Branch competitions annually.
Also on the night our Lady President Patience Collier presented a cheque for £770 the proceeds of her Lady President’s Day fundraising to Brid Galligan, on behalf of Meals on Wheels Mullingar.
Our next presentation night will be on Wednesday October 11.
