Historic house is up for sale

One of the Mullingar area's most historic buildings, Tudenham Park House, is up for sale.

Completed in 1742 by first owner George Rochfort, the property is an 18th-century Palladian limestone country house located in Tudenham Park on the Rochfort Demesne near Belvedere House and Gardens on the banks of Lough Ennell.

The local story goes that the grandiosity of Tudenham House elicited such strong feelings of jealousy from its owner's brother Robert, the man who built Belvedere House, that he had the now famous Jealous Wall constructed so that he wouldn't have to see it every day.

Tudenham House Park is located on a 65 acre site with a lake frontage of two kilometres. According to the summary on Daft.ie, the house is three storeys over a basement and is in need of renovation, with the roof having been removed in 1957.

During World War II, the house was used as a convalescent home for army officers.
