Tributes pour in for 'true gentleman' Pauric Kirby

The funeral details for Pauric Kirby, the young father who died in a workplace accident in Mullingar yesterday, have been released.

The popular Castletown Geoghegan native passed away from injuries sustained after he fell from a height while doing work at a premises on the Old Dublin Road yesterday afternoon.

As soon as news of his untimely death emerged yesterday afternoon, tributes started pouring in for builder Pauric, who comes from a family with a long and distinguished history in the construction industry.

Hundreds of people have paid tribute to Pauric on the Westmeath Examiner's Facebook page over the past two days with people describing him as “a true gentleman”, who will be “greatly missed by all who knew him”.

Speaking on Midlands 103 earlier, local councillor Liam McDaniel, said that Pauric was “the kind of person you'd love to meet”.

“He had a very positive, happy go lucky attitude and always had a friendly smile on his face. This tragic news that arrived yesterday has really rocked the community but knowing the community we'll be strong. The people will gather round and the support will be there.”

Pauric recently did work on Deputy Robert's Troy home. Deputy Troy told Midlands103 earlier that his passing is “heartbreaking”.

“He is a young man who went to work in the morning and didn't return home in the evening. It really is heartbreaking. His passing will create a sense of loss that will be felt by so many across the community, but especially for his family. He was a husband, a father, a son, an uncle and he was a friend.”

Predeceased by his grandparents Michael and Margaret (Kirby), grand-dad Tom (Cleary) and his uncle Peter. Deeply regretted by his heartbroken wife and best friend Nikki his adored children Van, Leah, Isla and his expected son Páidí, parents Pat and Mairéad, sister Niamh, brother Phelim, grandmother Mary (Cleary), mother-in-law Tracey, father-in-law Stephen, aunts, uncles, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, grand uncles, grand aunts, cousins, relatives, neighbours and a very wide circle of friends.

Reposing Saturday (October 7) from 2.30pm to 5.30pm in Castletown Geoghegan GAA club house. Arriving for funeral mass at 1pm on Sunday in St. Michael's Church, Castletown Geoghegan. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.
