Local Scouts honour annual tradition
A Scouting calendar tradition, the group investiture took place last Monday, October 16, when more than 50 members under the age of 18 were present along side their 16 Scouters (adult leaders).
New members are asked to recite their Scouting promise and there is a celebration afterwards. This year the group were also delighted to welcome Eduardo Goncalves, who was an active Scouter in Brazil and who joined the Milltownpass team.
The weekend another milestone for the group was marked as the first member since the pandemic to complete their training in Scouting Ireland was awarded the coveted, internationally recognised Woodbeads. Deirdre O’Brien McGivney travelled to Ennis to complete the award.
This year the group are also hosting The Santa Express, a fundraiser that involves a trip from Mullingar to Longford and back on the train while Santa and Mrs Claus meet and greet. Tickets are still available, though selling fast, at 9thwestmeathScouts.com.
Congratulations and celebrations to 9th Westmeath Scout group who have ensured that Scouting is available to members of our youth in the surrounding areas for many years to come.
