Busy few weeks ahead for the IWA branch in Mullingar

The Irish Wheelchair Association in Mullingar has a busy few weeks ahead as Christmas rapidly approaches.

This Thursday, November 9, there will be a Remembrance Service and blessing with Fr Connor at 1.30pm.

A week later on Thursday November 16, the branch is holding a table quiz in the Annebrook House Hotel as part of their ongoing major fundraising drive to secure a new bus. Willie Geraghty will be the quiz master and there will be loads of prizes. Entry fee is €20 per table.

On Friday November 24, the branch is also holding a fundraising coffee morning in the Annebrook at 10am.

For many of the 33 members, who are from Mullingar and surrounding towns and villages, the bus is their only way of getting to and from the centre in Springfield where they participate in a wider range of programmes, as well as creative arts and crafts, and exercise classes

Over the course of the year there also a range of social excursions, such as the upcoming trip to the Christmas Pantomime on December 20.

The Christmas Sale of Work takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, December 6 and 7, in the Springfield Centre, starting at 11am; while possibly the most eagerly anticipated event of the year, the annual Christmas Party, takes place on Thursday December 14.

Stella Martin winner of the fancy dress competition, with Bernie Keirnan, Mareen Carroll and Anna Mulligan.

Coordinator Alice McDonnell says that everyone associated with the IWA in Mullingar are exceptionally grateful for the support they receive from the wider community over the course of the year.

Referring to their ongoing efforts to raise €60,000 for a new bus, Alice says that the branch is totally dependent on locals support as they are not funded by any other source.
