Mullingar 4 All hold protest in solidarity with Palestine
Mullingar 4 All held a second protest to highlight the plight of people in the Gaza strip, on Sunday afternoon on the Market Square. Organiser, and founder of Mullingar 4 All, Christine O’Mahony, speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, said she was pleased with the turnout.
“We’re here protesting the crimes that have been happening in Israel – recently, a refugee camp was bombed, hospitals, medical staff and ambulances were bombed as well. Innocent children are being murdered by the IDF right now. More than 9000 people in Palestine have been killed. That’s why we decided to have a solidarity rally today.” Christine said speakers at the rally urged the people of Mullingar to follow the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) principles. “We need to boycott any product that has the number 729 (in the bar code), as that means it is from Israel. Once you buy an Israeli product, that money goes back to Israel, to buy guns and ammunition. That’s why we’re calling for a boycott. We are also calling for a ceasefire.”
She said that what is happening in Gaza is no excuse for anti-Semitism. “We’re not going to blame everyone who is Jewish – we’re just blaming the government who have committed these crimes.”
