Halloween fundraiser party for Kirby family
Well in excess of 250 people packed into Castletown Geoghegan community hall last weekend for the community’s first Halloween party. The hall was bedecked with spooky decorations provided by GEM Events and the local Christmas lights committee.
“We are very proud of how the community rallied around for games and fun and to raise funds for the Kirby family following the tragic death of Pauric Kirby,” said Lisa O’Donnell, one of the main organisers, along with Claire Jackson.
There were prizes for the best costumes for different age groups, the best pumpkin and a raffle for 48 prizes.
Lisa explained that the committee was set up last year to raise funds for the Christmas lights in Castletown, but following the tragic death of Pauric, they decided to focus on raising funds for the bereaved family.
They are holding another major fundraiser, a Night at the Dogs in Mullingar Greyhound Track, on November 25.
Lisa said that the community, and in particular many young mothers, have rowed in behind the fundraising drive.
The committee are holding a social night in the hall on November 17, in aid of the Christmas lights appeal. Music will be provided by Ray Murtagh and Eddie Quinn and there will be plenty of social dancing – waltzes, jives and fox trots. Doors open at 9pm and admission is €10.
Also, the committee will welcome Santa to the hall on November 24, the night of the Late Late Toy Show, for the local children.
