Westmeath actor stars in new Disney+ series

Niamh Algar is one of the stars of a new heist thriller series on Disney+ that is getting rave reviews.

The Mullingar native plays an assassin known as Specialist in Culprits, which also stars Eddie Izzard and Gemma Arterton. Specialist was part of an elite crime gang that went their separate ways after pulling off a major job. However, after being targeted by an assassin the members have had to join forces again.

Algar says she had great fun playing Specialist in the eight part series, which is “something new that you can’t really compare to anything else”.

“The Culprits themselves are unique and bold. Tonally, it’s kind of dark but there’s humour in it as well, and there’s a lot of heart.

“I play Specialist, aka Inga Beatrice, who is also known as Psycho. She’s a specialist in the field of being able to kill people in a very quick and un-messy way, so basically, she’s a badass assassin. She’s tactical, she’s a hunter, extremely intelligent, fearless, tough as nails, and quite wild!

“I found her such a fun character because she doesn’t give much away, it’s a joy and a challenge to play around with that.. Specialist is fascinating because she makes unusual choices. Who knows what madness she got up to after the heist with all that money, but where we find her in the present is living in complete exile; she chose to disappear into the wilderness, completely off the grid. It takes a certain type of person to be able to do that...”
