Loughcrew Gardens' sustainable winter wonderland lightshow
Loughcrew Gardens at Loughcrew Estate just outside Oldcastle is hosting an enchanting lightshow on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until December 23.
The themed lightshow will take place in Loughcrew's historic gardens, located at the foot of the Loughcrew Cairns, the seat of the witch (Cailleach) and a key location in the Boyne Valley, appearing in many legendary tales.
All of the sustainable installations are made on-site from reused, recycled or reinterpreted materials (metal cans, plastic bottles, CDs, furniture, etc.). The narrative of seasonal change is reflected through the materials used, bringing the importance of sustainability into the very fabric of how these stories are told.
The Loughcrew lightshow brings visitors around a trail rich with lights, sculpture, imagination and magic. The stories are presented through large projections, interactive installations, dynamic installations, shadow and sound.
The trail of light wanders through Loughcrew's idyllic landscape as it winds through its historic gardens, adventurous woodland and ultimately bringing you back though history to St. Oliver Plunkett's family church. The paths have been expanded to ensure that there is access for all across the landscape gardens, rich woodlands and water features.
Santa Claus will also be making a special appearance for any children that are eager to meet him during this festive season with animations and music to bring the scene to life.
The Loughcrew lightshow was born during Covid-19 as a way to open the space up during the winter months while helping business to survive. It has since grown year on year and is set on ensuring that each material, sculpture and installation is created with a view of extending its lifespan into the future.
Whether you are looking for something to delight the senses, an experience to learn about the mystical past, or just to create forever memories with your loved ones, these magical illuminations are the perfect way to start the festive season.
