Motorists 'misusing' estate, Glynn claims
Motorists are “misusing” a Mullingar housing estate, local councillor Ken Glynn has claimed.
At the November meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, the Fianna Fáil man asked that the district take “immediate steps” to prevent the ongoing misuse of the one-way traffic system in O’Growney Drive in the interest of public safety.
“I’ve recently met with the residents association, and the problem continues,” he told officials.
Responding, the executive stated that adequate signage and road markings are in place.
It went on to point out that illegal driving is a policing issue, and that can be discussed with An Garda Síochána.
Cllr Glynn asked that that be done, and also that the amount of signage be increased. District engineer, Pat Kavanagh, said there is no issue with markings or signage, but that the council will raise the policing question with the gardaí.
At the same meeting, Cllr Glynn asked for additional drainage at Brosna Lawns, Old Clonmore. He explained where local springs are causing continuous water flow in the area on a near-daily basis and that is leaving green algae along the road.
The response from the municipal district team stated that drainage there is adequate and that local springs in the area drain into the existing system.
“Can we review it?” Cllr Glynn pleaded, arguing that it is an issue he has had to raise in the past. The executive agreed to re-examine the problem.
