Robbie's dad Tony is his Christmas hero!

Westmeath's rugby star Robbie Henshaw is a big fan of Christmas, and he is looking forward to getting back home for the big day to enjoy his dad's festive cooking!

What is the build-up to Christmas like for you?

It is very exciting - I’m a big fan of Christmas because I get to catch up with my family and close friends at home.

How and where will you spend Christmas this year?

I will spend Christmas at home in Athlone.

What does the Christmas season mean to you?

It means a lot to me because it’s a time to celebrate with family and it’s also a time to be generous and thoughtful.

Who is your Christmas hero?

My dad Tony - he does all the cooking and always nails it!

What are you thankful for this year?

Thankful to be healthy and fit going into the New Year. I have been working alongside AYA this year as a brand ambassador and have been upping my intake of supplements.

It can really help my recovery and something I will be continuing into 2024.

What's your favourite Christmas memory from times past?

My favourite memory from Christmas would have to be playing a trad session with my grandfather Billy Henshaw in our local pub in Coosan Point on Christmas Eve.

What's your best loved Christmas tradition?

My best loved tradition would have to be a Christmas Day swim in the River Shannon!!

Favourite Christmas song or movie?

Fairytale of New York.

How will you ring in the New Year?

I will ring in the new year from my home in Dublin. I hope to be playing the Ulster game in the RDS on New Year’s Day.

What's your big hope for 2024?

My big hope is to continue to be fit and healthy coming into 2024 and to make sure I spend time with my family.
