Mullingar and District Gardening Club supports TEAM
At the annual flower arranging demonstration and buffet supper held in the Mullingar Park Hotel on November 30, Mullingar and District Gardening Club was charmed by Marie Dodrell’s creation of floral masterpieces and tales of her adventures over the years.
The latter included stories of her travels and especially in her participation as a competitor at the World Flower Show in various countries, India and Japan being her favourites.
The club is most grateful to Marie for her generosity, her sharing of her vast knowledge and her practical tips on making flower arrangements and wreaths at home, using various plant materials from the garden.
She also advised on the international trends of using sustainable containers and supports to hold flowers in place, eg straw wreath bases, twigs, logs and wooden dowels as well as chicken wire instead of floral foam for arrangements.
She said also that for contemporary designs, especially for competitions, the use of miniature glassware suspended on a frame is now popular. After dinner, Marie’s stunning creations were raffled, and the proceeds (€284) were donated to TEAM to support its most important work.
Club members and guests enjoyed a memorable night out.
The club’s monthly meetings resume in March 2024 at The Bridge Club, Bellview.
