Operation Transformation visits Tyrrellspass GAA
This evening’s episode of Operation Transformation included footage and interviews from Tyrrellspass GAA, who are taking part in Ireland Lights Up.
A huge crowd turned out for the event, including local star and former Westmeath footballer Ger Egan, and the GAA president, Larry McCarthy.
Kay Slevin, Tyrrellspass Pitch Development chairperson, said that her club were “absolutely delighted” to have Ireland Lights Up for 2024.
“There’s such excitement in the village all week. They’re talking about it in the schools, in the shops, in all the local areas.”
Westmeath and Tyrrellspass footballer Ger Egan was there to support his club and community: “Ireland lights up is a brilliant initiative and it’s great that Tyrrellspass can be part of it, so what you’re doing is brilliant.”
GAA president Larry McCarthy said: “It brings people in to the GAA club who wouldn’t necessarily be interested in our bread and butter, which is hurling and football.
“It exposes more people to the GAA and puts us even more so at the heart of the community.
“There are so many people out here tonight, enjoying themselves, socialising, and getting an opportunity to exercise - it’s at the core of our communities.”
