Speeding at Ballagh Road still 'causing concern to residents'
Speeding motorists on the Cullionbeg/Ballagh Road are continuing to cause concern to residents of that area, Cllr Aoife Davitt informed officials at the meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad as she asked for an update on safety works planned or communication with gardaí in relation to the issue.
Responding, the executive stated that low-cost safety works were carried out in 2023 and that Westmeath County Council’s road safety officer has made contact with An Garda Síochána in relation to the speeding.
Cllr Davitt said that while she was aware money had been spent on the issue, she wondered if there was anything more that the district could do to support the residents: “They’re constantly sending messages in relation to speeding and behaviour of drivers,” she stated.
District engineer Pat Kavanagh said that signage and road markings have been installed and a speed survey had confirmed that some motorists were speeding there. The only remaining option was to ask gardaí to monitor the issue, and that request has been made.
