Mullingar RFC's U13 teams show grit and talent in weekend matches
This weekend was a busy one for the Mullingar RFC Under 13 boys, with both the Red and Blue teams in action. The Red team faced off against Portarlington RFC at Shay Murtagh Park, while the Blue team travelled to take on Wicklow RFC. Fielding two teams at the under 13 age group is a remarkable achievement for Mullingar RFC, reflecting the growing interest and enthusiasm in the club.
The Mullingar Red team had a challenging game against a strong Portarlington side, who brought a large squad. The Reds found their rhythm in the second half, with notable performances leading to two well-crafted tries by Ben and Ollie. Despite their efforts, the game ended in a 21-10 victory for Portarlington.
Meanwhile, the Mullingar Blue team started their match against Wicklow RFC with a bang. Óran scored an early try, impressively converted by Colm. Wicklow responded with a try, but Mullingar's Daire powered over for another try, again converted by Colm. The first half saw Mullingar defending tenaciously, successfully keeping Wicklow from crossing their try line.
In the second half, the Blues continued their strong performance with additional tries from Óran and Daire, with Colm converting one. Wicklow mounted a comeback with two late tries, but Mullingar held on to secure a 26-19 victory.
Special congratulations to PJ, who recently made his debut for the club, and to the boys who captained and led the teams with exceptional skill and leadership. Well done to everyone involved in both games for showcasing resilience, teamwork, and the spirit of rugby.
