Major expansion of Castlepollard CC given the green light
Longford Westmeath ETB has been given the green light for a major new expansion and upgrade of the facilities at Castlepollard Community College.
The successful application includes details for for the refurbishment of the main school building and the construction of two 2-3 storey extensions to contain general and specialist classrooms, a special education needs (SEN) unit, a PE hall, a general purpose hall, offices, a staff room, library, social spaces and the installation of solar panels on the room.
Planning permission has also been granted for two multi-use games areas, an amphitheatre and a SEN play area, as well as the demolition of an existing extension to the main school building and the removal of prefabricated classrooms, a temporary dining room and sheds.
As part of the expansion work, the school's current 58 space car park will be reconfigured to provide 61 staff parking spaces, which will include 12 electric vehicle charging space and five accessible spaces, while 28 shelter and eight non-sheltered bicylcle parking spaces will be provided.
Improvements will also be made to the existing bus drop off area and a new car-drop off area will be created with two new exit/entry points along the Mullingar road.
