The Downs ladies GAA club was celebrating some fine achievements on the playing field at the club house on Saturday evening, where the senior ladies and U16 sides were honoured. Muriel Flynn, secretary of The Downs ladies GAA club, said it was a big occasion for the club.
“We are presenting medals to the team that won the U16 Division 4 shield title. Their coaches Kevin Staunton, Olivia Corcoran and Emma Murtagh have done wonderful work with the team,” she remarked.
“We are delighted with this group of players; they have really progressed well. Winning Division 4 means they have moved up a level now and we are obviously delighted with that progress.”
The Downs senior ladies were also honoured on the evening. The Downs were senior finalists in 2023 and will be aiming to go one better this year.
“The senior ladies won senior league medals (Division 4) and that is a great achievement. We are delighted to be in the company of their coaches, Johnny Murray, David Kelly, Christy Doyle, Martin Egerton, Trudy Rowan and Emma Murtagh,” she said.
“They have developed brilliantly and we are delighted with the progress they have made. We are really looking forward to this year’s league and championship.”
The Downs ladies club are delighted with the funding received from the JP McManus donation and acknowledge all of their local sponsors, in particular Paul Coleman.
“Only for their support we would not be a successful ladies club,” explained Muriel Flynn.
