Snow day! Westmeath wakes up to heaviest snowfall of the year

It may be the first day of spring, but Westmeath households woke up to the heaviest snowfall of the year this morning.

In the Mullingar area, many national schools are closed and a status yellow snow-ice warning is in place for the entire county until 10am.

There have also been a number of reports of local roads of challenging driving conditions on local loads this morning.

Local Link has posted on social media that there are "severe delays" to its Mullingar to Athlone bus service due to road conditions.

It has also been announced that the boys U15 Feile competition due to take place in Rosemount tomorrow has been postponed.
