Palestinian ambassador to Ireland to address Athlone conference
The highlight of the opening session of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions Women's Conference 2024 in Athlone will be an address by the guest speaker, the Palestinian ambassador to Ireland, Dr Jilan Wahba Addalmajid.
The conference will take place in the Hodson Bay Hotel on Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8 and the session featuring Dr Wahba Addalmajid will commence at 11am this Thursday.
On Friday at 9.30am there will be an address from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions' (ICTU) General Secretary Owen Reidy.
Fringe meetings will take place on Thursday from 1pm to 2.15pm with an update on the latest developments in Gaza and the wider region including how trade unions can work in solidarity from Trade Union Friends of Palestine Chair Patricia McKeown.
Craig Harrison, Carers Norther Ireland will talk about the recent research paper published by Carers NI and the Women’s Regional Consortium on Career or Care, Women, unpaid care and employment in Northern Ireland. Clare Duffy from Family Carers Ireland will also outline the key challenges facing family carers in Ireland.
Newly appointed Project Coordinator with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, David Carroll, will introduce Congress’s new Anti-Racist Workplaces and Unions project.
