'I can see some future community leaders in this group'

Burke visits Presentation Senior School

Minister Peter Burke took time on Thursday to call to Presentation Senior Primary School in Mullingar.

“It's always great to call to local schools and hear of their ongoing projects and particularly to hear from the students and staff. I got to meet the Student Council and hear of their work and the engagement was very positive. I can see some future community leaders in this group.

“I got the opportunity to see their video on Cyber Security, which they have put together. I was very impressed with this initiative and to see the work of the pupils and how technology is being used in the school. Critically, this brings the education of safe internet use into sharp focus. Safe use of the internet is so important. Pupils will learn from each other with the help of this project and will reinforce the importance of this issue to the school population.

“There was also a chance to see the Hot School Meals programme. Significant progress has been made on the Hot School Meals Programme after a very successful pilot programme. From April 2024 an additional 900 schools countrywide will be availing of the scheme. It is great to see how this scheme has benefited the pupils in Presentation who have been part of the scheme for a number of years.

“The expansion of the Hot Meals Scheme will see children benefit from regular, nutritious food served in schools, which will provide the best nurturing environment for learning. It levels the playing field for all students and it gives children the best possible start on their learning journey. I am delighted that Presentation School has had such a positive experience with the scheme,” concluded Minster Burke.
