Steripack acquired by global leader in medical packaging
Mullingar firm Steripack Ireland has been acquired by France's Sterimed Infection Control, one of the global leaders in the medical packaging sector.
The acquisition was announced this morning (Thursday) at the official opening of Steripack's state of the art medical packaging facility on the Dublin Road, formerly the site of the Imperial Tobacco factory.
In a joint statement the firms said that the current team at Steripack Ireland, “will continue their business development work with the full support and resources of the Sterimed Group”.
“This collaboration aims to create a prestigious 'centre of excellence' in the manufacturing of high-end medical and pharmaceutical packaging. Combining their expertise, Sterimed and Steripack Ireland are set to advance the industry through their cutting-edge solutions and unwavering commitment to quality and innovation.”
Speaking at the official opening, which was attended by a large crowd, including the French Ambassador Vincent Guerend, Minister Peter Burke and Deputy Robert Troy, Sterimed CEO Thibaut Hyvernat said that his firm has “huge ambitions” for its new Mullingar facility and that it plans to create 30 new jobs over the next three to five years.
“No doubt this company is going to be a great success...We have a bright future together. I am really sure of it. We have everything we need to succeed,” he said.
Minister Peter Burke said that Sterimed's acquisition of Steripack Ireland is a “significant investment in Mullingar”.
“It is very important to demonstrate the value of very strong, sustainable, high value jobs. We really welcome that and we welcome the investment.
“We look forward as a government to working with you in the future.”
Steripack Ireland was founded by Mullingar native Garry Moore, who was unable to attend the opening. Mr Moore was also the driving force behind the redevelopment of the wider site, now known as the National Science Park.
Therese O'Connor, SteriPack Ireland site director, paid tribute to Mr Moore at the opening.
“Gary's leadership and vision for the site from the very beginning is the reason we are all here today. His guidance, his pursuit of excellence is second to none and his leadership is the reason the National Science Park [is here].
“The impact it has had on the local economy; the investment, the jobs, the opportunities for growth, it was always his passion to bring something to the midlands and his home town, Mullingar.
“I think that he had done that very successfully.”
Headquartered in France, Sterimed is a world leader in the manufacture of sterilization packaging and employs 1,300 people at 23 sites across the world, including 13 manufacturing facilities.
