Coláiste Mhuire in all-Ireland semi-final of Concern Debates
The senior debate team from Coláiste Mhuire have reached the all-Ireland semi-final of the Concern Debate Competition.
The team members are Dylan Kennedy, Kyle Faherty, Brian Wycherley and Daniel Coffey, who are in TY and joined the debate team this year.
The competition is an all-Ireland one run by the charity, Concern.
They have gone through seven debates so far, from the initial league stages to the knockout rounds.
They were in a semi-final against Maynooth Community College Kildare on Thursday March 14 at Concern HQ, and successfully defeated the motion ‘It is possible to end world hunger in our lifetime’.
They face Hazelwood College Limerick in the next semi-final, on April 11 in Camden Court Hotel, Dublin. The motion is ‘the current aid system is ineffective – it’s time to shift the power’.
