‘Lynne represented the peak of what so many of us wished we could become’
Actor Niamh Algar has paid a moving tribute to her older sister Lynne, who passed away last Friday following an illness bravely borne.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday, Niamh said that “there are simply no words to describe the pain in losing a big sister”.
“My heart is broken. She taught me everything. She touched and inspired so many she met and worked with, and accomplished more in her short life than most people would achieve in several lifetimes.
“She fought the Everest of all cancers and managed it with so much dignity, humility and strength. She’s my hero and forever will be. Her kids are her world and the most beautiful extensions of her, an extraordinary legacy that I will forever be in awe of.
“I love you Lynne, you will never be forgotten. Thank you to the incredible medical teams at Beaumont, the Mater Hospital and to the Irish Cancer Society. She passed on Daffodil Day and if you can, please donate to the Irish Cancer Society and Brain Tumour Ireland.”
Tributes have poured in for mother-of-two Lynne, who was a highly regarded physical therapist and yoga instructor. She was also a talented athlete and coach, who worked with a number of organisations including Triathlon Ireland.
In condolences posted on RIP.ie, Lynne was described as “a high achiever in everything she did, but most importantly of all just a genuinely lovely person”. Another poster said that: “In Loreto and in the pony club, Lynne represented the peak of what so many of us wished we could become – so beautiful, so successful, so graceful but always so unassuming, calm”.
Cherished mother of Aille and Nuada, Lynne will be forever loved and always remembered by her adored children, their father Aaron, her heartbroken parents Dave and Angela, her dear brothers and sisters Kenneth, John, Jen and Niamh; sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, relatives, friends and neighbours.
Lynne’s funeral takes place tomorrow morning, Tuesday, in All Saints Church at 11am, followed by cremation in Mount Jerome Crematorium.
