Ballymore Community Centre in urgent need of renovation
Ballymore Community Centre is the central hub of the area. It caters for the young, old and everyone in between, for mothers and toddlers, the local Men’s Shed, the youth club and bowls. It provides for many sporting codes such as badminton, Irish dancing, GAA and Nordic pole walking. It is used by many different societies for meetings, fundraisers and birthday parties.
It is safe to say that, at some point, everyone in the area has availed of this great facility for something. The centre is the social outlet for bingo, the hoedown and all forms of music and social events.
While it has been well maintained over the years, it has and is struggling with the cost of the necessary repairs and improvements needed to keep everything up to the required standards.
Ballymore Community Centre is run by a small group of volunteers, who donate their precious time every day to try and keep it open.
Regrettably, it has come to the point of no return! Unless drastic action is taken, they may have to consider closing the centre.
As a starting point, the committee have arranged for the car park to be fully retarred and lined.
Externally, the roof and gutters need upgrading, the exterior needs painting. Internally, all the electrics, lighting and heating system needs upgrading.
The cost is astronomical. They ask that you please put your hand in your pocket to donate whatever you can to save the centre. They desperately want to keep it viable for all and for the younger generation to be able to use it like this one.
They have organised a coffee morning on Sunday 21 April (11.30am-2pm) when Comhaltas musicians will perform lovely music. Please come along to support it, and if you can bake goodies too, all the better. Thank you.
