Funding of €176k allocated for Westmeath outdoor recreation projects
Funding of €176,175 has been allocated for outdoor recreation projects in County Westmeath.
The funding comes under the Outdoor Recreation and Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), which announced €4.1m worth of national projects today, that aims to improve amenities like walking trails and cycleways.
Some €29,475 has been allocated for surface enhancement works at the 1.5km Milltownpass Bog and Woodland Trail.
A further €27,000 has been given to Westmeath County Council to be spent on a ‘high impact PR and marketing campaign’ for Greenways in the county.
The Portaneena Marina in Athlone has been allocated €30,000 to further develop the amenity.
Scragh Bog is to benefit from €29,700 in funding to upgrade its existing car park.
Portlick Woodlands has also received €30,000 for the provision of signage at the popular Athlone amenity.
Green Party MEP Pauline O’Reilly said she is delighted to see so many local projects benefit from the funding.
“€176k will be allocated to Westmeath projects which will greatly enhance our natural amenities such as beaches and cycleways and help attract visitors to our towns and villages,” she said.
The €4.1m in funding announced today will be spread across 151 outdoor projects nationwide.
