Scoil Chroì Naofa well represented at Westmeath Scór Schools Finals
Scoil Chroì Naofa will be well represented at this year's Westmeath Scór School finals which are set to take place on April 18 in The Downs.
The Rochfortbridge school has a recitation finalist, a ballad group, a figure dancing group, and a quiz team all aiming for gold in the annual event.
They have been practicing in their various fields since January and have already overcome a preliminary round in Rathwire on Friday, March 15, and a semi-final in Rochfortbridge on March 20.
The school also had a sketch team that missed out on the finals by a whisker.
Junior Infants teacher Ulrika Maher, who helps organise Scór at the school, said they have been “flat out” in their preparations for the event.
“We do it at break times mostly and when my junior infants class goes home, I’m straight into rehearsing with our teams," she said.
“They’ve been doing this since January, giving up their free time and lunch breaks so you’d have to praise all their hard work in getting this far.
“It’s a great thing to do in school and after coming out tops in a few categories in the semi-final, I’m feeling confident they will do well in the final.”
Teacher Trish Greene has taken charge of the ballad group this year, while Lisa Colleary and Paula Kilmurray have been mentoring the quiz team. The school also wish to thank local dancer teacher Kevin Lyster for his help.
Westmeath Scór Schools was founded around ten years ago by Delvin NS principal Catherine Daly and has become well-established in the county since.
