Father admits feud gun rap

A father has pleaded guilty to possessing an illegal sawn-off pump action shotgun and ammunition in connection with a feud in Mullingar last year.

John Nevin, 54, of Columb Drive, and his son David Nevin, 32, the Cedars, Lakepoint, in Mullingar, County Westmeath, were charged with offences under the Firearms Act for unlawful possession of the weapon and five cartridges on August 9 at Columb Drive.

Mr Nevin entered a guilty plea when he was arraigned at last week’s sessions of Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court.

Judge Keenan Johnson remanded him on bail pending the preparation of a pre-sentence probation report and ordered him to appear in court again in June for facts and a mitigation plea.

His son David Nevin was to be arraigned this week.

An earlier bail hearing in the District Court was told the pair “made no reply” when charged. Their bail required €20,000 sureties in each case.

They had to notify the gardaí of their addresses, provide them with mobile phone numbers, be contactable at all times, surrender their passports, and not apply for duplicate travel documents.
