Aoife McCarthy wins a Team Ireland doubles spot in style

It’s official - Aoife McCarthy and her Limerick doubles partner defeated the pair of Catriona Casey and Fiona Tully to take the senior ladies doubles spot on Team Ireland for the upcoming World WallBall Handball Championships in Limerick this coming August.

The finals were held in Belfast last weekend with Aoife and Martina McMahon losing out in game one. The duo were down 12-6 in game two, but with their desire for the spot on the official Team Ireland obvious, they fought for every point, taking game two 15-12. The match required a tiebreaker. Causing an upset, the pair felt in good control throughout the tiebreaker and emerged winners on a 11-8 tiebreak score.

Enrico Patrizi competed in the Boys 15 and Under trials and having played some amazing handball to get through to finals weekend, it wasn’t to be on this occasion as he lost out in the tiebreaker to Darragh Kehoe of Dublin on scoreline of 11-8.

Massive congratulations to Aoife and Martina on their achievement and also to Enrico who played amazing handball throughout the Team Ireland trials.

All-Ireland Féile WallBall champions

The club are celebrating with pride in our youth who travelled to Kilglass, Roscommon for the All-Ireland WallBall Féile. With our 70th anniversary approaching this summer, we had our first ever boys and girls WallBall Féile teams.

The girls team was made up of Alanna Staunton, Caoimhe Heaney, Mary Kate Gilbert and Gráinne Heap, while Enrico Patrizi, Darragh Hannon, Connor Matthews, Adam Hannon and Tit Patrizi made up the boys team.

Both teams impressed their coaches with their performances throughout Féile and came home All-Ireland WallBall Féile champions 2024 having defeated Abbeylara and Annaduff in their respective finals. Enrico Patrizi also took home the gold in the Boys Skills Division. Congratulations to the players and the team coaches for their achievements.

These youths now look forward to the World Handball Championships in August and will be seeking funding to help them get there. The club will be fundraising over the coming months and appreciate all support possible for these very deserving players.
