Work on 12-home final phase of Bun Daire to start in June

Work is to begin in June on the construction of 12 new houses at Bun Daire estate on the Boreen Bradach at Kinnegad.

The announcement of the start of work on ‘The Green’ development was made last week by Westmeath County Council. It is expected to take 10 months to complete the works.

The contracts were signed on May 1 with OCC Construction Ltd from Galway City, who won the competitive tender process.

Bun Daire housing estate lies to the north of Kinnegad town centre and is within 400m of the main street.

“The new houses seek to integrate into the existing residential estate and form the fourth and final phase of development at this location by Westmeath County Council,” a council statement issued on Thursday said.

The document went on to state that careful consideration had been given to the question of layout and that the design team had been particularly cognisant of the existing public open space requirements and landscaping around the area due to their role in serving the complete estate.

According to the council, the homes will deliver clean warm and healthy environments, meeting the mandatory A2 BER standard (Nearly Zero Energy Building) and use renewable technologies in the form of air to water heat pumps and photo voltaic solar panels, which will provide energy harvested from the sun to help meet the electrical demands of the homes.

“The development is part of the council’s plans for new homes in Westmeath as part of its commitment to the government’s Housing for All programme,” the statement said, adding that Westmeath’s Capital Housing Design team is working in partnership with consultants McMahons Associates to deliver accessible, quality housing.

“The completion of the estate with this phase of development marks a milestone for Westmeath County Council towards community integration, whilst fulfilling the promise of accessible and quality housing for all,” the statement concluded.
