The Lynn Road in Mullingar.

Assault victim is conscious and talking

The condition of the male who received serious injuries during an assault at his residence on the Lynn Road on Thursday afternoon improved over the weekend.

That's according to a local garda spokesperson, who told the Westmeath Examiner that the male is now conscious and is also talking. He is currently being treated in a Dublin hospital.

The assault occurred at around 4.45pm on Thursday afternoon. Gardaí said that when officers attended the scene “they found a male that had been seriously assaulted and required immediate medical care”.

“He was brought to Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar and then transferred to Tullamore.

“From our inquiries another male in his mid 30s was identified and arrested. He is currently assisting gardaí with our inquiries.”

It is believed that the male arrested in connection with the assault is known to the victim.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the Lynn Road between 4.45pm and 5.45pm on Thursday afternoon and noticed anything unusual, to contact Mullingar Garda Station.
