Monday evening thunderstorm warning extended to Westmeath and Offaly

A weather warning for thunderstorms in parts of the Midlands and West has been extended to include the counties of Westmeath and Offaly.

Earlier today, Met Éireann issued a yellow-level thunderstorm warning for several counties in the West and Northwest, including Roscommon.

Shortly after 4.30pm, that warning was extended to also include Offaly and Westmeath.

The weather warning is due to be in effect until 9pm tonight, and the national forecaster said there was potential for spot flooding, difficult travelling conditions, and poor visibility over the coming hours.

A more severe, orange-level, thunderstorm warning is in effect for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
