Moate gastro pub announces it will close due to rising costs

Moran's Gastro Pub in Moate will be closing on June 9, due to rising costs which have made the continuation of the business "unsustainable".

The eatery, which was situated in The Gap House pub premises on Church Street, announced the sad news in a social media post on Wednesday. The Gap House pub itself is not closing, and will continue to trade.

Moate native Kieran O'Shaughnessy and his wife Alex opened the Moran's Gastro Pub business last June.

"It is with a heavy heart that we announce Moran’s Gastro Pub will be closing its doors on Sunday, June 9, at 8pm," they stated today.

"Due to rising costs, it is no longer sustainable for us to continue operating.

"We want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support and patronage over the past year. Your loyalty and the cherished memories we've created together mean the world to us.

"Please join us in these final two weeks to celebrate our journey. We look forward to serving you and sharing in the memories one last time."

People with vouchers for Moran's Gastro Pub are being asked to use them by June 9 or contact the business in order to redeem them.

Moran's will be open this week from tomorrow (Thursday, May 29) to Monday, June 3, and again from Wednesday, June 5, to Sunday, June 9.

"Thank you for being a part of our story," concluded the social media post on behalf of Kieran, Alex, and their team.

Today's news was greeted with disappointment by locals, who praised the high quality of the food and service at Moran's over the past year.
