LE Candidates Q&A: Patrick Hussey (Independent)
Mullingar LEA
1. Tell us a little about yourself
I’ve lived in Mullingar town for most of the last 27 years, with periods studying and living in Dublin, also. I grew up on a farm in the Ballinea area and went to school in St Kenny NS – the school Niall Horan went to. My father Patrick Snr passed away when I was six, leaving my mother with four young children. I have three sisters, a niece and three nephews. I am a recruitment consultant, a graduate of Multyfarnham Agricultural college, Dublin City University and Dublin Business School, I have a big interest in history, politics and genealogy and I’m a supporter of Norwich City FC.
2. Why did you get involved in politics?
I have had a lifelong interest in politics, I was a supporter and member of Fine Gael previously, and in recent years I have become disillusioned with the main parties and have felt that we need big changes in Irish politics. We need a move back to proper centre right politics. I see independent nationalists as the best vehicle for real change.
3. What are the big issues?
Housing, homelessness and associated issues, including immigration.
4. Who is your role model?
My late father Patrick J Hussey Snr is my role model.
5. What are your hobbies?
Walking, cooking, travelling, historical and genealogical research, and electronic music.
6. Tell us one thing about yourself that people will be surprised to read
My birthday is on leap year.
