LE Candidates Q&A: Sarah Herraty (IF)
Kinnegad LEA
1. Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Sarah Herraty. I’m from Roscommon but have lived in many parts of the country over the years. My background is HR (MSc Smurfit, UCD in 2011), but I moved into finance 10 years ago and qualified as a chartered accountant.
2. Why did you get involved in politics?
Over the past four years, the actions/inaction of the government compelled me to set about asking questions and researching for myself what was really going on, outside what the mainstream media was ‘reporting’ (not reporting).
I am a nationalist. I unapologetically state that the root cause of the downward spiral of Ireland's communities is rooted in dangerous, uncontrolled immigration, which impacts on all facets of our lives: housing, health services, culture...
3. What are the big issues?
Not specific to Kinnegad, but of course the main issue is housing. No council houses should be vacant/in disrepair. If elected, I will call for an immediate independent audit of all council owned properties in Kinnegad and of any state funded private properties.
The knock-on effect from uncontrolled immigration has crippled services across the board: healthcare, school lists, mental health access...
We need more focus on safety: street lamps, voluntary ‘community alert’ community groups, garda boots on the streets. Oppose further IPAS centres.
4. Who is your role model?
Any who are not afraid to stand up for what is right – too many to mention.
5. What are your hobbies?
Badminton.
6. Tell us one thing about yourself that people will be surprised to read
I am a co-founder of Ireland First alongside Derek Blighe and Margaret Alacoque Maguire.
