LE Candidates Q&A: Maureen Pigott (SF)
Kinnegad LEA
1. Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Maureen Pigott, formerly Brennan, born and raised in Crookedwood. I got married last year and we have two gorgeous puppies.
2. Why did you get involved in politics?
To try to change things for the better, as a woman and someone with a disability, I’ve always had to fight for the smallest things I need.
I’ve been involved in politics since I was 15 years old when I retained a seat on the Junior Westmeath County Council.
I then went on to study Politics and Journalism for a year after school. After that, I continued my activism in disability and female rights.
3. What are the big issues in your area?
Everywhere I have canvassed speeding is a huge issue, difficulty accessing efficient and affordable healthcare as well as lack of recreational areas for the youth.
4. Who is your role model?
Dolly Parton. She is smart, kind and talented.
5. What are your hobbies?
I’m a writer, poet and occasionally I like to karaoke.
6. Tell us one thing about yourself that people will be surprised to read
Twenty one years ago I waited in pain, for the same spinal surgery children are waiting for today. No change in government means no change in priorities and the truth is change starts local.
