2. Why did you get involved in politics?
I originally got involved in grassroots politics at the age of 15 with the signing of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998. I was first elected in 2004 and have served in each term since. I have previously served as mayor and deputy mayor on two occasions. I narrowly missed out on a Dáil seat in 2016.
3. What are the big issues?
Housing, immigration, planning, road safety, lack of investment in mental health services and the cost of living are issues that are coming up constantly on the doorsteps.
4. Who is your role model?
I think James Connolly is an excellent role model. He stood up for workers’ rights and argued for people’s quality of life and improved housing. He also believed in a united Ireland and was one of leaders of the 1916 Rising.
5. What are your hobbies?
I am interested in all sports and regularly attend matches. I also enjoy crosswords and puzzles. I also like walking and visiting parts of Ireland that I haven’t visited previously.
