Tony Allen among performers at upcoming Moate Trad Fest

The Moate Town Team events committee is organising a Moate Trad Fest event for Sunday, June 16.

The one-day festival is set to "immerse the town of Moate in music and culture from 1.30pm onwards," according to the organisers.

The event is designed to celebrate the great tradition of music and talent in Moate and the surrounding areas, where many international music stars and accomplished musicians have emerged over the years.

It will get underway with an Under-18s acoustic busking competition, which will start at 1pm and is free to enter by visiting www.moate-town.ie. Registrations will be completed on the day, near the main stage, which will be beside the Flowers Unique shop on Main Street.

Winners of the kids' colouring competition, involving local schools, will be announced and the entries will be on display during the day.

Music on stage will commence at 2.30 and will feature a large group of young musicians from Moate CCE, Camillus Hiney and Friends, Folk Lure Trad Group and special guest Tony Allen, of Foster and Allen fame.

The fun doesn’t stop there, as the Trad Seisiún pub trail will see a host of great acts playing in the pubs in Moate from about 6:30pm onwards.

There will be other on street entertainment and an opportunity to sample wares from various street vendors.

Moate Town Team was established in 2023 as part of the Town Centre First programme and comprises various members of different interest groups from the town of Moate and surrounding areas.

The Town Team would like to thank all of its sponsors, which will be listed on its Facebook page, as well as Westmeath County Council for its continued support in helping to make Moate an inviting, inclusive and welcoming town for all.

The Town Team also thanked An Garda Síochána and bus companies for their cooperation in relation to road closures and, last but not least, it thanked all of the entertainers and competition entrants, without whom none of this would be possible.
