Westmeath bar closes due to damage caused by fire
A popular local bar and restaurant has been forced to close due to extensive damage caused by a fire that occurred last weekend.
The blaze broke out at Scanlons Bar in Kinnegad shortly after 9am on Sunday where two units from the Mullingar Fire Brigade and one from Meath attended the scene.
The kitchen had been subject to extensive damage due to fire, heat, smoke and water from firefighting operations, however, emergency services prevented the fire from spreading to the roof and the rest of the building.
It is reported that firefighters were on the scene for almost three hours eliminating the blaze and checking for hot spots and potential reignition sources.
In a post on Facebook, the staff at Scanlan’s Bar said they were “sad to announce we had a fire in our kitchen” which occurred on Sunday morning.
“All our staff are safe and well thank god,” they said.
They thanked the local community for their help and supportive messages during this difficult time. Concluding the post, they confirmed they will re-open as soon as possible.
