E-scooter seized from Mullingar youths for dangerous behaviour

Gardaí seized an e-scooter from two youths in Mullingar this week for dangerous behaviour.

The rear passenger had a mobile phone placed in front of the driver so that he could continue a video call while operating the scooter.

It was spotted by Gardaí who directed the pair to stop, and they failed to do so.

When the e-scooter was stopped, it was found to have defective brakes and was seized.

Gardaí say they also seized two more e-scooters in recent days that were operated by youths under the age of 16 years old.

It follows the introduction of new laws last month, dictating that e-scooter users must be 16 years or older and obey a speed limit of 20km/h.

The scooters are also now banned from footpaths and carrying passengers.
